Professional Qualifications

it is very important to ensure that the therapist you are seeing is fully trained, qualified and registered. The following bodies also protect you if you ever need to make a complaint against one of their members.

I am a full member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy,(BACP) and am accredited and registered with the UKCP. These are the two major bodies in the UK, with strict criteria for the membership and registration of qualified psychotherapists, and I adhere to their codes of ethics. I hold a UKCP and BACP accredited Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This involved 5 years of training and many hours of client work in a variety of placements, including working with psychiatrists in a clinical setting. I also have honours degrees in Psychology and English.

I have had two previous careers as a writer and university lecturer in Creative Writing.

My teaching career revealed to me the therapeutic effects of autobiographical writing on my students, which evolved into an interest in the work of CG Jung, and on to training as a transpersonal psychotherapist, an approach which is closely allied to Jungian philosophy. In this way, encouraging creativity is part of my practice.

I also teach workshops in "The Hero's Journey" as a means of discovering the myths of our own lives, and the scripts we live by.
